The Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev signed a decree on the creation of the national park with the area of more than 660 hectares in the upper reaches of the Chikoi River in the Trans-Baikal Territory.
The document was published on the government website. “The purpose of the National Park (“Chikoi”) is the preservation of unique natural complexes in the upper reaches of the Chikoi River in the Trans-Baikal Territory” – as it is stated in the accompanying materials. The area is also a home to rare and endangered animals listed in the Red Book of Russia, as well as the economically valuable elk, wild boar, roe deer, red deer, musk deer, brown bear and sable, as the Cabinet of Ministers explained. The National Park with the total area of 666.4 thousand hectares is created in Krasnochikoisky District of the Transbaikal Territory on the forest lands, including within the boundaries of the liquidated nature reserves “Burkalskiy” and “Atsinskiy”.
