Timbered warehouses, the buildings constructed in medieval times, are being dismantled in Zheleznodorozhny township of Kaliningrad Oblast.
Demolishing of the famous monument of history and culture was reported by eyewitnesses in social networks. They posted a picture showing how unknown persons drove the tractor and take out old wooden beams and ancient bricks. Kaliningrad historians turned to be indignant and wrote about the scandalous situation to local media.
The region has almost no buildings that in old days were constructed with the use of a unique half-timber construction technology. Timber beams, which give the building a special flavor, serve as load-bearing basis. Locals used abandoned old buildings as barns for coal and firewood storage. Many historical sites in the village turned into ruins. Zheleznodorozhny township known as Gerdauen before 2WW, is one of the few localities, which have preserved buildings and townscape of the Order period.
