While dredging at the Rumyantsevo metro station under construction workers found three copper vessels full of jewels and jewelry.
Builders came across one of them on February 17 and afterwards archeologists were invited to check up the excavation site.
Archeologists found two more vessels harboured in a crypt at the depth of two meters. The pots contained jewelry made around the 16th century. However, among the finds there was an even earlier work - a gold bilateral pendant with jewels dated to the 15th century.
According to preliminary data, the treasure was buried in the early 16th century in the Time of Troubles in Russia. Most likely, the jewelry belonged to a noble family and had been collected by more than one generation.
Now the treasure is kept in the Moscow Museum of Pre-revolutionary History and Culture. Some part of it will probably be displayed at the Rumyantsevo station after its opening.
