While the TV Center channel was broadcasting the classical film The Garage directed by Eldar Ryazanov the viewers were perplexed to hear beeping.
As it turned out, the beeped expression was part of the exclamation by Georgy Burkov’s character: “What the heck! Monkeys will get frozen there!” (Somebody suggested that monkeys be settled in the Siberian taiga).
It is a reminder that a recently adopted law prohibits using profane words in cinema.
However, the “heck” is not included in the list of obscene words – there are just four of them plus their derivatives.
Journalists of the Echo of Moscow radio station called Eldar Ryazanov. “I watched that telecast. It had the age qualification “6 plus”, - the film director said. - It means that children above 6 only can watch The Garage movie. What is there to beep?! I am at a loss for words. In short, it is insane”.
Eldar Ryazanov is not going to sue the channel: he could not but infer that the incident was “the best advertizing”.
