Health Care Institutions May Be Banned

Russian medical institutions may be banned from purchasing imported equipment and products, except for those manufactured in Belarus and Kazakhstan.

The draft of the Resolution of the Government of the Russian Federation with the telling title “On establishing a ban on the admission of goods originating from foreign countries for the purposes of organizing procurement for state and municipal needs for the purpose of protecting the domestic market of the Russian Federation” was prepared by the Ministry of Industry and Trade “in order to protect the domestic market”. According to the authors of the idea, such a ban is “to ensure the national security of Russia” by the way of creating “conditions for long-term development and building competitive advantages of Russian companies in the domestic market”. However, the Ministry of Industry and Trade provided no data on the needs of the Russian health care institutions for the medical products and equipment in the list and the corresponding capabilities of the domestic industry.
