The main peculiarity of the second city championship for waste paper collection “Eco Battle“ in Arkhangelsk  is the possibility to return plastic bottles and used batteries for recycling.

The championship starts on Saturday and will last for a month. “Within a month, four waste receiving points will operate in the city. The collected waste paper, plastic and batteries will be sent to St. Petersburg, Vologda and Chelyabinsk to recycling enterprises, as there are none of these in Arkhangelsk oblast” - the press-secretary of the Arkhangelsk Branch of World Wildlife Fund (WWF Russia), one of the organizers of the championship,  reported.

The teams from schools, public organizations, businesses and just like-minded enthusiasts will compete in the amount of collected recyclable waste. At the end of the championship the winners in the categories “waste paper” and “plastic” will be chosen, and the reception of used batteries will be out of the competition. According to environmentalists, paper recycling can significantly reduce the use of wood in the manufacture of paper, and thus to help preserve forests.
