Vadim Gippenreiter’s exhibition Sanctuary Russia was opened on Tuesday, marking the 97th birthday of the oldest Russian photographer.
The anniversary exhibition runs in the Worker and Collective Farmer museum and exhibition centre.
Vadim Gippenreiter was born on April 22, 1917. Upon graduation from the Surikov Art Institute he became fond of photography.
Vadim Gippenreiter is the author of 36 photo albums, which were repeatedly published abroad. He is also known as the first person to ski down the Elbrus (in 1939) and the first USSR champion in downhill racing and slalom (1937) and the first USSR sports master in mountain skiing (1937).
The key subject of Gippenreiter’s photos is Russian nature. The two floors of the exposition area under the famous sculpture by Vera Mukhina present works made throughout 60 years of his creative activity. About 50 thousand format slides are kept in the photographer’s archive.
The exhibition will run till 18 May, 2014.
