Monument to Victims of Political Repressions to be Set up in Yakutsk

A stylized chapel on a stone pedestal will be set up in Yakutsk to commemorate the victims of political repressions.

The monument will be located in a public garden near the Grado-Yakutsky St. Nicholas Church at the intersection of the Octyabrskaya and Lermontova Streets.

The 7.5 meter high Stella will be decorated with two bronze bas-reliefs with memorable inscriptions and pictures on the subject of labor camps. A barbed wire fringing the Stella symbolizes totalitarian regime of the power and massive repressions. Political prisoners’ invincible willpower breaks this wire. Thus, the Stella has a chapel-shaped aperture with a bell inside of it.
