The Swedish media are split over their national team’s chances in the semifinals of the world championship against Russia, says Sovetsky Sport.
According to the sports daily, some media outlets are defiant in the face of a strong Russian squad, led by stars like Evgeni Malkin and Alex Ovechkin, while others fear it’s going to be a tough challenge to beat the Red Machine.
Earlier, Russia knocked out France 3-0 following a five game winning streak during the qualification round.
There were concerns that Alex Ovechin might be off after a painful collision with Germany’s Marcus Kink but he will be on ice to secure Russia’s place in the finals.
Washington Capitals star injured his knee and was taken to hospital for an examination. The gravity of the injury is unknown and the forward refused to comment.
Russia routed Germany 3-0 and earned 15 points out of 15 in five matches, topping the table in Group B.
Evgeny Malkin joined the national team after his Pittsburgh Penguins were forced out of the Stanley Cup.
The worlds are seen as Russia’s chance to compensate for the bitter defeat at the 2014 Olympic Games in Sochi.
