Torino 2006. The fourth day brought four medals to Russia!

February 13 brought another victories to Russian team. First our biathletes Svetlana Ishmuratova and Olga Pyleva won gold and silver medals, then our skater Dmitry Dorofeyev came second in speed skating. And to finish the day Russian pair Tatyana Totmyanina and Maksim Marinin won gold medal in figure skating.
The closest rivals to Russian biathletes were Germans, but they made too many mistakes in the shooting part of the pursuit, which allowed more accurate Russians to take most of the medals. Russian sportswomen could have taken all three of the medals, but Martina Glagow, German biathlete, broke into what could have been Russian finish. Albina Akhmatova needed just another 20 seconds in order to win bronze medal.
For a long time Russia hasnt been a real pretender to the speed skating throne, and now Dmitry Forofeyev has proven that one should take Russia into consideration when talking about this sports category. It is not a coincidence that Dorofeyev was entrusted with bearing Russian banner at the Opening Ceremonies of the Winter Olympics. Dmitry told that it was impossible to beat Joey Cheek, and although he suspected that he wouldnt become the champion, he managed to win silver medal. I didnt think about medals. I just wanted to show my best results, what I am capable of.
Everybody knew that Russian figure skaters were among the favourites, and expected them to win gold medal. Tatyana Totmyanina and Maksim Marinin havent let down their fans and became Olympic Champions.
Today Russian sportsmen can achieve success in skiing, biathlon, and skating, so lets wait and hope that this day will be as fruitful for the Russian team as yesterday.
