Hermitage Presents Updated Muslim Art Exposition

The Hermitage Museum in St. Petersburg has opened the updated permanent exposition Art of Islamic Middle East.

Metal wares, bronze and ceramic vessels, ivory caskets and plates, wooden panels, rock crystal vessels, glazed and non-glazed ceramics, and fabrics of the 8th - 9th centuries can be now seen in two halls on the 2nd floor of the Winter Palace.

Every chronological block has a panel with coins of the dynasty of that exact time.

Lots of these exhibits are displayed for the first time, such as, for example, the early Islamic or pre-Islamic art of Egypt created by its Christian population, the Copts.

The Hermitage Museum collection is one of the most notable collections of Muslim art in the world.
