The 36th Moscow International Film Festival starting on June 20 will not display Andrey Zvyagintsev’s Leviathan.
“We invited and persuaded him, but things did not come around”, – the curator of the festival’s Russian program Mrs. Irina Pavlova reported.
It is a reminder that Leviathan won the Best Script prize at the Cannes Film Festival and crowned the closing of the Kinotavr Film Festival in Sochi.
Contrary to expectations, the prize-winner has been included into neither opening nor closing ceremonies of the MIFF. Moreover, it will not even be part of any of the festival programs.
It was reported earlier that Andrey Zvyagintsev declared that he would not remake his film for the sake of distributing it in Russia.
