The forward Alexander Kerzhakov repeated the achievement of Vladimir Beschastnyh in the number of goals scored in the Russian national football team. The goal scored in the first round match with South Korean team in the group stage of FIFA World Cup Brazil, which took place in Cuiaba (1:1), became 26th in the national team for the forward from Zenith Petersburg.
Kerzhakov reached this bracket in 82th match in the national team, while Beschastnyh, who played the last game for national team on March 29, 2003, was able to do it in 71 matches. The forward from Lokomotiv Moscow, Roman Pavlyuchenko (21 goals in 50 matches), who dropped from the World Cup team, is the third in the list of top scorers in the history of Russian national team.
Active players from the list are presented by Zenith forward Andrei Arshavin (17 in 74), forward Dmitry Sychyov (15 in 47) and Zenith midfielder Roman Shirokov (12 in 41). The first two were not included in the World Cup team according to the decision of the head coach Fabio Capello and the third missed tournament due to the injury.
