Canada is slapping new sanctions against 11 Russian and Ukrainian nationals and one legal entity in a protest against alleged Russia’s actions in Ukraine, says Canada’s National Post.
According to the report, the individuals will face economic restrictions and a travel ban.
“Russia’s illegal occupation of the Crimean peninsula in Ukraine and provocative military activity remains a serious concern to the international community,” Prime Minister Stephen Harper said in a statement.
The new measures announced on Saturday have been added to earlier sanctions against high-level officials and some organizations in Russian and Ukraine.
Also, according to the National Post, Canada expelled a Russian diplomat and pledged $220 million to help recover the Ukrainian economy.
