On June 26 the Tsaritsyno Museum will open the exhibition Adult Fashion. Stories from Doll Wardrobe.
It turns out that before women’s magazines came to be, these were dolls that informed ladies about changing fashion. New season dresses were in details made for dolls and only after that tailors sewed clothes “for adults”. It was not limited to clothes only: hats, handbags, gloves, umbrellas and jewelry were also tried on doll models first.
The exhibition in Tsaritsyno will present a great number of exhibits from the realm of doll fashion (i.e. human fashion) of the 17th - early 20th centuries. Antique dolls and baby dolls, daily and festive dresses, underwear, lacy shirts and other accessories will be displayed in several halls. One of the halls will be turned into a fashion studio, with the process of making doll clothes shown in detail, with working copies of sewing machines, dummies and tiny scissors. The exhibits will be provided by the Unique Dolls Museum.
The exhibition will run till September 28.
