Russian Foreign Ministry confirms recommendations for Russian tourists to avoid visiting Bangkok and be cautious in Thailand, despite the abolition of curfew in several provinces of the country.
"We reaffirm our recommendation to the Russian citizens to avoid visiting Bangkok for tourism purposes and to follow towards vacation places without arriving to the capital; to display diligence and to fulfill all requirements of the security forces when staying in Thailand," declaration of the Foreign Ministry states.
"After military coup that happened in Thailand, the situation in the major resort centers of the country remains calm. In this regard, the Thai military commanders had decided to cancel the curfews previously imposed in three provinces," was noted in the department.
Earlier curfew was lifted in Pattaya in Chonburi province, on the island of Koh Samui in Surat Thani province and in the island-province of Phuket. In the rest of the country, including the capital Bangkok and such tourist areas as Hua Hin and the island of Koh Chang (Ko Chang), residents and visitors are still forbidden to appear on the streets from midnight to four in the morning.
After the coup, the military announced the national reconciliation program, the purpose of which is to resolve the multi-year political crisis that divided the Thai society into two opposing camps. The military also task to restore growth of the Thai economy, including the tourism sector, which amounts to between 7% and 10% of GDP.
