Heaps Of Amber In Kaliningrad Oblast

Emission of amber pleased tourists at Pionersky beach in the Kaliningrad Oblast.

Intense roughness of the Baltic Sea and wind caused a huge amount of algae to be washed ashore together with amber.

Professional amber catchers were interested only in large "marketable" stones; smaller fragments could be easily picked-up by tourists. Amber sand is thrown at Pionersky beaches quite often; however, this big "harvest" is rare. By the way, the Kaliningrad Oblast's shoreline near the Yantarny town concentrates 95% of the world's amber reserves.
