St. Petersburg Government approved the names of the eight underground stations planned for construction, and also returned the historical name to Robespierre Embankment in the central part of the northern capital.
According to the regulations published at Smolny's website, Savushkin Street metro station will be called "Begovaya", but the station at Shkipersky Canal on Vasilevsky Island will be named "Harbor." Also, on Vasilevsky Island there will appear "Mining Institute" metro station (previously planned name "Bolshoy Prospect").
"Obvodny Canal-2" station changed its name to "Karetnaya", but the "Zoo" station in Primorsky District will bear the "Planernaya" name, as the zoo project was decided to be removed to another place.
In addition, the Government of St. Petersburg returned the historical name to Robespierre Embankment in the center of the northern capital. Now, this highway is called "Voskresenskaya" in the name of the church that at the beginning of the 18th century was located on the corner of Chernyshevsky Avenue and Shpalernaya Street. The embankment was renamed in memory of Maximilian Robespierre in 1923.
