Sculptural group depicting Marshal on a warhorse will appear on the Marshal Rokossovsky Boulevard. The monument to Marshal, who commanded the historic Victory Parade (Marshal Georgy Zhukov reviewed the troops) on June 24, 1945, will be installed as part of the celebrations of the 70th anniversary of the Great Victory, the website of the Russian military-historical society reports.
Competition for the best design of a monument to Rokossovsky was announced by the Russian military-historical society last May. Jury chose two projects. The majority of votes were given to the work of the People's Artist of the Russian Federation Alexander Rukavishnikov. Tribute to one of the greatest commanders of World War II, twice-Hero of the Soviet Union will be paid also by renaming Podbelsky Street metro station to Marshal Rokossovsky Boulevard.
This decision was taken in April of this year by the City interdepartmental committee for the naming of territorial entities, streets, metro stations, organizations and other Moscow facilities.
