Olympic champion Evgeny Plushenko has announced he wants to skate at the next winter Olympics, a brave step after he was nearly paralyzed at the Sochi Games in February.
Plushenko won gold in the team event but walked away from ice in individual men’s event due to an injury in a warmup session.
He later told the press he felt a pain in the back and realized he could not perform that night.
It also turned out that one of the screws in the spine broke. Plushenko underwent a surgery in an Israeli clinic and after a rehab returned on ice as a professional skater.
The Russian star also made his way into science history, with his photo appearing in a physics book.
The two-time Olympic champion’s image was captured in "Principles of Physics: A Calculus-Based Text" by Raymond Serway and John Jewett.
The figure skating star is seen on the left-hand side of the page explaining the nuances of rotational motion.
The news was broken by Plushenko himself in a tweet.
