The Novosibirsk Museum of Local Lore will hold an exhibition of the Soviet park sculpture.
By the beginning of the academic year the curators plan to display a collection of sculptures devoted to pioneers. The historical sculptures will be restored and the process will be accessible for all comers to see.
According to the museum director Andrey Shapovalov, these sculptures have no monumental status, but all of them were created in the 1930s and are of great artistic value as authentic examples of Socialist Realism.
“All the sculptures are made of high-quality material, namely concrete with marble filling. All the details in sculptures are unusually elaborate, which is a sign of high quality. The sculptures were annually painted throughout 70 years, but once we remove the paint they gain antique features. That is impeccable craftsmanship” – the sculptor and restorer Alexey Agrikolyansky emphasizes.
Regional local history experts looked for these sculptures all over the Novosibirsk Region. Lots of these Socialist Realism art works were found in former pioneer camps.
