The international expedition of scientists discovered the stalagmites and stalactites of the minerals hitherto unknown to science on Flat Tolbachek volcano. This was announced by Alexander Belousov, the senior researcher at the Institute of Volcanology and Seismology of Far Eastern Federal District.
Flat Tolbachek eruption ceased in 2013. The Active Volcanism Laboratory representative noted the uniqueness of the expedition, as there has not been the case in the history of science when the researchers were able to penetrate into the lava cave less than a year after the eruption. The team members have mapped six caves, three of which were entirely investigated. "Maybe, these findings are fluorides and chlorides of some metals," Mr. Belousov suggested. Unknown metals will be analyzed in the near future.
