Sochi Agglomeration Development

Sochi was included into the federal program of social and economic development of agglomerations. It is designed for 20-25 years. During this time it is supposed to carry out not only large-scale urban changes in the city, the facilities of Sochi-Tuapse region are also to be changed, as Rossiya 1 reports.

Now Sochi is a monocentric agglomeration, where almost all necessary facilities are located in the centre, which forces residents and guests of the region to spend a lot of time on the road. This is inconvenient and put additional burden on the infrastructure and the environment. It is proposed to make the resort polycentric, dividing it into eight clusters.

According to the developers of the project, there are two urban areas in Sochi now, and the remaining areas need to be developed. The balance is to be reached in three stages. First, the infrastructure of beach maintenance and engineering systems of environmental safety are to be formed in the existing railway corridor.

Besides, only a light metro line will be left along the coast, and in mountainous areas they will build flyovers, tunnels and transport interchange hubs. And the final stage is moving automobile roads and railways from the sea to the mountains and creating conditions for active development of rural settlements. At the same time it is proposed to create a sea line between the resort clusters. A tourist, knowing what kind of rest he needs, will be able to select an area of accommodation for himself, each of them will be virtually autonomous.
