Shooting of the film Elbe Day authored by the well-known Russian film director Pyotr Todorovsky has been launched in Poland.
The film is timed to the 70th anniversary since the Victory of the USSR in the Great Patriotic War.
The film telling about the meeting of Russians and Americans on the bank of the German River Elbe on May 8, 1945 is directed by Pyotr Todorovsky's widow Mira Todorovskaya. The scriptwriter, who personally experienced historical events of that spring, pretypified the main character of the film.
Shooting is already under way in Poland. The project is implemented by the scriptwriter;s widow, without any financial support from the state. The film budget makes more than 70 million rubles. The expenses are partly covered by the Cinema Foundation that has allocated 15 million rubles. Crowd funding on the site Planeta.ru is also expected to contribute a lot.
The film will is planned to be released in May, 2015, for the 70th anniversary of the Great Victory Day.
At the end of May the scenario was rejected by the Military advisory council of the Culture Ministry.
