Taxi Tariffs Are Being Discussed

The Head of the Moscow office of Federal Antimonopoly Service, Rachik Petrosyan believes it is acceptable to provide "first-come, first-served" service for taxi passengers at stations and airports on the assumption of single price for transportation. He noted that the price at which the taxis would transport passengers from major transport hubs should be uniformed, but it has to be set by the facilities themselves, not by regulatory public authorities.

FAS opposed the introduction of state regulation of tariffs for taxi services, at the same time supporting the uniformed price for taxis at the airports and railway stations, Vechernyaya Moskva transmits. Mr. Petrosyan noted that the taxi service is not a natural monopoly activity, that is, private carriers should be free to compete in price and quality of provided services, at the same time revealing their rates. Until the end of 2014, the authorities plan to set a maximum price for the transportation of passengers from the railway stations and airports.
