Moscow residents get the opportunity to walk on the new pedestrian zone from Nikolskaya Street and the Red Square to the Maroseyka Street and the Garden Ring.

This was announced by Moscow mayor, Sergei Sobyanin during the inspection of works on comprehensive improvement of the quarters adjacent to Maroseyka and Pokrovka streets. The mayor recalled that, the traffic lane will be reduced and the pavement area will be increased half times during the reconstruction of the Pokrovka Street. There will emerge a beautiful pavement and lighting of good quality; the extra advertisments – about 500 objects – will be removed. Besides that, renovating of facades has already started; 100 houses have already been put in order. "This work is ongoing and it will be finished by the end of the street reconstruction," Mr. Sobyanin said. Complete reconstruction of Pokrovka is planned by August 25; the asphalt will be laid on the street by the August 10. Pokrovka will have two lanes; one of them will be completely given to public transportation and electric buses. In addition, 48 courts in this area have already been thoroughly landscaped and few public gardens have been arranged.
