The Leningrad Region is developing three new tourist routes that include visits to country estates, monasteries and fortresses, the head of the region Alexander Drozdenko informed journalists.
"One of the routes that we want to start implementing the next year is "The Silver Shield of Russia": the route from-fortress-to-fortress, which starts from the castle of Vyborg to the fortress of Korella, then followed by Old Ladoga-Koporye-Schlusselburg and ends in Ivangorod", the Interfax transmits governor's words. In addition, a pilgrimage route was developed in the region: through the monasteries and churches, as well as the route through the noble's mansions. "Some of them (country estates) have been restored, including Maryino and Dylitsy Elizavetino manors, also we aim to restore the Thaytsy estate," A. Drozdenko said.
The head of the region believes that with the solving of the logistical problems the interest of tourists towards region's cultural sites will increase. "We have a problem: there is a lack of proper logistics in the organization of tourist routes. If we provide good transport links, decent food and comfortable accommodation, then we would succeed to attract not only Russians – we will be able to increase the number of foreign tourists in the Leningrad Region 5-7 times," the governor underlined.
