Tretyakov Gallery Holds Exhibition of Frames

The Tretyakov Gallery has opened its new exhibition season with the large-scale project Precious Casing. Painting and Frame. Dialogues.

The exhibition highlights various aspects of the painting-and-frame interaction throughout several centuries, from the 13th to the 21st centuries. It is remarkable that the history of painting frame here includes the period of latest art trends currents; thus it is the first research of this topic for the 20th - 21st centuries.

This interesting and self-sufficient material from the Tretyakov Gallery collection has long been waiting for special research and display. The exhibition will include about 150 works from collections of the Tretyakov Gallery, the History Museum and a few private collections. In addition to monumental painting in casing and frames displayed separately, the visitors will see masterpieces of arts and crafts, such as bone carved icons and refined photo frames by Karl Faberg’s company.

The exhibition runs from September 10 to November 30.
