A regional program for the development of cycling in the region is going to be developed in the Novgorod Oblast. As it was reported in the press center of the regional administration, this was discussed at the meeting of the working group chaired by the First Deputy Governor Veronica Minina. She pointed out that the cycling development program should include three components: sports, transportation and tourism. Three core departments: of Construction and Road Infrastructure; of Physical Culture and Sports and the Department of Culture and Tourism were invited to take part in the elaboration of the final document.

The Head of the Department of Physical Culture and Sports of the Novgorod Oblast Vladimir Gorelkin noted that in order to promote development of cycling it is planned to build a track with artificial lighting in the Derevyanitsy district of Veliky Novgorod, on the basis of the "Sparta" State Regional Autonomous Educational Institution on Beregovaya Street, which is within department's jurisdiction. In winter it can be used for the development of skiing; in summer for cycling. They also discussed the cycling route: not only in Veliky Novgorod, but in the oblast as well.
