Moscow State University became the only Russian university included into the top 200 best universities in the world in the ranking compiled by the British company Quacquarelli Symonds (QS).
MSU took 114th place in the published list. Compared with the previous year’s ranking, the University has improved its result by six positions. Other Russian universities named in the list stand outside the first two hundred universities. St. Petersburg State University (SPbSU) is located at the 233rd position (last year it was the 240th), Moscow State University named after Bauman – at the 322 th (the 334th in 2013), and Novosibirsk State University - at the 328th (a year ago it took the 358th position). All leading Russian universities have improved their positions in the ranking.
The positions in the top ten of the best universities in the world are traditionally occupied by the high schools from the USA and the UK. The ranking is topped by Massachusetts Institute of Technology, the second position is occupied by the University of Cambridge, the Imperial College of London took the third line. Harvard and Oxford Universities took fourth and fifth positions, respectively. In December 2013 QS compiled the ranking of the best universities in the BRICS countries (Brazil, Russia, India, China, South Africa), MSU took the third position among them.
