The fossils found by fishermen in the Ruta-Yu River in the Yamalo-Nenets Autonomous Area are remains of a huge prehistoric animal.
Salekhard zoologists have confirmed the fact. According to experts the age of these remains is more than 100 million years. The series of photos and video records taken at the site of the find are studied by Ural paleontologists.
The expert in rare biological and abnormal objects Pavel Sitnikov assumes that the fishermen have found remains of the Dakosaurus, an ancient sea relative of the crocodile of the Jurassic and Cretaceous periods.
“So far judging by the photos of the skull covered with water one can draw only preliminary conclusions about the species it belonged to. It looks similar to the sea pangolin of the dakosaurus - the Dakosaurus-maximus”, Mr. Sitnikov explained.
Sergey Gashev, Doctor of Biological Sciences, thinks that the fossil could belong to Seymourioraorpha, one of the first reptiles.
