A monument to the first firework will be set up near the Trinity Cathedral in Bolshaya Sovetskaya Street in Smolensk.

      It was a public initiative to create such a memorable sign in the city. According to chronicles, the first gun salute in Russia was recorded in 1396:  the Grand Prince of Moscow Vasily and his spouse were welcomed in Smolensk with festive fireworks.

      “It will be a unique monument, the Russia's first monument to fireworks. I am very proud that it will appear in Smolensk, i.e. the city that repeatedly rescued and defended Russia from enemies”- Oleg Dolgov, the executive director of the Russian Pyrotechnic Association points out.
