Unknown species of Pliosaur - the largest marine reptile of the Jurassic Period - has been found in the Ryazan Region.
It was reported by Alexey Shmakov CSc, the head of a study group of the Yu.A. Orlov Paleontology Museum in Moscow.
According to him, this find is different in sizes from anything found earlier. 30 stones with the weight from 10 to 50 kg each and with about 40 remained bones in them have been dragged up.
"The science already knows some species of this dinosaur. However, the size of this find is incomparable to any other remains found before. Thus, it can be the discovery of not just a new pliosaur species in the territory of modern Russia, but the biggest species of this prehistoric extinct animal” - the scientist points out.
