The Pushkin Museum of Fine Arts has opened the exhibition Oscar Wilde - Aubrey Beardsley. Look from Russia.
The names of Oscar Wilde and Aubrey Beardsley became popular in Russia in the early 20th century. Valery Bryusov, Konstantin Balmont, Alexander Blok, Andrey Bely, Nikolai Gumilyov and other Silver Age poets were admirers, translators and followers of Oscar Wilde. The Silver Age literary art journals, such as Apollo, Scales, and The Golden Fleece played a great role in promoting Aubrey Beardsley’s creativity in Russia.
The exhibition presents original drawings by Aubrey Berdsley, as well as prints of his engravings from collections of London museums, including Victoria and Albert's Museum, the British Museum, Tate Gallery. They will be displayed for the first time in Russia. Earlier these works were accessible to people only as publications in art magazines.
The exhibition includes over 150 works from British and Russian museums.
The exhibition runs till November 30, 2014.
