Valery Karpin and Mallorca breathed a sigh of relief after the first win in 8 games in Segunda, Spain’s second league

Mallorca beat Deportivo Alavés 2-0. You can watch video highlights here.

Earlier, Russia-IC reported that the board of directors had decided to sack Valery Karpin due to the side’s dismal performance. In seven rounds Mallorca has managed to get just two points after two draws and five lost games.

Valery Karpin moved to Spain in August 2014 after he had been fired from Spartak Moscow.

You can read Russia-IC report about it here.

After several seasons in Moscow, the long-standing coach was fired after two losses in matches against Terek Grozny in the Premier League and Tosno Leningrad Region, a club from the second division, in the Russian Cup.

Coming sixth in the previous season of the Russian Premier League, Spartak Moscow has now ambitious goals to get back into the top three and the European club tournaments, dreams buoyed up by the signing of Roman Shirokov from Zenit and a newly built stadium, Otkritie Arena.

The team’s owner, Leonid Fedun, complained the title was floating away despite the fact that Karpin had all he had wanted.

Murat Yakin replaced Karpin as the new coach.
