The Altai town of Biysk begins to position itself as a “pelmeni capital” of the region. In the second half of November the town will host the championship in pelmening sports held in the Altai Krai for the first time: there will be team competitions in hand making of pelmeni at a speed.

Partcitipants’ applications are accepted until November 9, as the correspondent reports toTravel.ru. As envisioned by the local administration, the event will be held annually, and it will be bigger each time. In the future the competitions and the accompanying cultural program will be held outdoors during the warmer months. The project is being implemented as a part of a large-scale tourist route “Silk Road”. Its goal is to increase the tourist attractiveness of the region, as well as to promote the products of Altai Krai. Now the region is known to gourmets mostly for cheese and honey.
