The collection of ancient Cyprian art has been for the first time exhibited in the Pushkin Museum of Fine Arts.
All the exhibits required complex and long restoration and were kept in store rooms.
Throughout the millennia of its development the culture of ancient Cyprus incorporated traits of various Mediterranean civilizations. However, for a long time it was seen only in the context of the Hellenistic or Ancient Near East cultures.
In spite of the fact that people in ancient Cyprus created unique peculiar culture, all serious world scientists ignored it as a separate phenomenon until the 19th century. it was only in the 19th century ancient Cypriots had a chance to take their place in the museum table of ranks.
Not the entire collection has been displayed yet. The same number of exhibits is yet to come out. After a large-scale reorganization the museum will arrange the entire collection of Cyprian antiquities in a separate premise.
The exhibition will be held till January 11, 2015.
