The memorial complex “To the Heroes of the Stalingrad Battle” on the Mamaev Burial Mound in Volgograd was included in the preliminary list of UNESCO World Heritage, as the Information and Publishing Division of the Museum “The Battle of Stalingrad” reports.
“The memorial was included into the preliminary list of UNESCO World Heritage by three cultural criteria at once. UNESCO experts believe that the architectural complex on the Mamaev Burial Mound is a masterpiece of human creative genius, an outstanding example of an architectural ensemble illustrating a significant stage in human history, and is also associated with the events of universal significance”- the press release says. The report of the Commission of the Russian Federation for UNESCO notes that “the Commission is ready to continue to provide all necessary assistance in the promotion of the memorial complex to the World Heritage List and in the strengthening of cooperation of Volgograd Oblast with UNESCO”.
