AUTOSPORT, the UK’s weekly magazine, has named Russia’s Daniil Kvyat the ‘Rookie of the Year’ for a ‘huge impression’ he’s made in his brief car racing career.
"It's been a great year and it's gone by so fast. I've been lucky to work with some great people at Toro Rosso. My first race was very special," said Toro Rosso's Formula 1 newcomer Daniil Kvyat, 20, as he picked up his 2014 AUTOSPORT Award.
He rose to F1 this season after winning Formula Renault ALPS and GP3 titles in successive years.
“Kvyat finished in the points on five occasions in 2014, and claimed a superb fifth on the grid for his home country's inaugural grand prix at Sochi in October,” reads the article in the weekly.
Kvyat has been racing for Toro Rosso but earned promotion to Red Bull, after German Sebastian Vettel couldn’t resist a lucrative deal form Ferrari.
The Russian press and pundits have praised the young driver, sure of a bright future for him at Red Bull, which is a top 3 team in Formula 1.
You can follow Kvyat on Twitter. His page bears a nice slogan: “From Russia with a full throttle!”
And you can enjoy this video, showing him and Daniel Ricciardo from Red Bull competing in an interesting motoracing event.
