Mr. Mikhail Piotrovsky, the CEO of the Hermitage Museum leaves open the possibility of founding the Hermitage satellite in Moscow.
Similar centers are planned to be opened in Omsk, Vladivostok and Yekaterinburg. Negotiations about opening the Hermitage satellite in Barcelona as well are under way.
Founding the Hermitage Moscow is possible but not planned yet, according to Mikhail Piotrovsky.
He emphasized that it is not about branches, but about the Hermitage satellites. “It is a fundamental point. The branch means that we finance and build something up. The satellite centre means that we provide the content materials, such as our exhibitions, lectures, and know-how. Local authorities maintain the buildings and finance the delivery of exhibitions; it becomes responsibility of governors, who must be involved in the project” — he explained.
Mr. Mikhail Piotrovsky reported that negotiations about opening the satellite center in Barcelona are carried out. They might appear and in other world capitals as well, but not in all of them. “I can say for sure that there will not be our center in Paris, because there is not enough space for it”, the director of the Hermitage said.
