Kirov - Capital Of Toys

The historians and public figures of Kirov Oblast offer to officially secure the title of the Russian capital of toys to Kirov. One of the reasons for this honorary title was considered the fact that the region was home to the oldest clay toy – Dymkovo toy.

As one of the authors of cultural tourism project “The Toy Map of Russia” Vadim Kabanov told, Vyatka land is home to the most famous and oldest clay toys in Russia, whose history dates back to the old days, XV century. In addition, the Russia’s only monument to clay toy is installed in Kirov, the largest toy factory of the country is located here, and the museum of toys is open here.

The official proposal to consider such an idea has already been sent to the head of the region Nikita Belykh. In it is approved by the governor, the official title will be obtained through legal instruments of copyright and may be used in the development of the tourist potential of Vyatka. For the time being the informal title of “the toy capital” belongs to Sergiev Posad near Moscow - the home of Bogorodskaya toys and painted matryoshka dolls. However, the residents of Kirov are sure that the potential of Vyatka is greater, more multifaceted and promising.
