A sculptural object representing an inverted cone with ice cream will open in Moscow at the main entrance to the Gorky Park on December, 9. It will also serve as an unusual Christmas tree. The choice of such an object is not accidental, because the main theme of the Gorky Park skating rink this year is pop art.
The inverted cone has been developed by a group of young architects from the “Novoe” agency. Previously they were also engaged in the creation of the summer pop-up pavilion of the Museum of Modern Art “Garage” and the summer terrace in the yard of the Museum of Moscow. The sculpture is an object of public art – the art of urban environment aimed at a wide audience. Objects of public art has become common elements of the urban landscape in many metropolitan cities and often become tourist attractions. Architects create the object specifically for the park, there are no sculptures of this kind anywhere in the world.
