December 20 saw the official opening of the History of World Cultures and Religions Museum in Derbent.
It was founded at the initiative of Ramazan Abdulatipov, the head of Dagestan.
The museum has three large exhibition rooms. The ground floor houses the exposition There Was Such a City presenting photos from old private archives of Derbent dwellers, their stories about the life of the city, as well as household items used in the last century. The exhibition is accompanied with a little library.
The exposition on the first floor includes unique exhibits representing four world religions: Buddhism, Christianity, Islam and Judaism, as well as life and cultures of various peoples. Most of the exhibits were donated to the museum by adherents of these confessions.
