Archaeological Monument in Timiryazevo at Risk

The archaeological monument in Timiryazevo of the Tomsk Region is still at stake due to housing development.

Earlier scientists reproached the regional authorities for indifference to devastation of the Timiryazevo archaeological site, were construction of the Snegiri cottage settlement was resumed. An inspection was conducted at the housing development area at the request of archeologists and revealed violations. The check-up documents were submitted to public prosecution service in March, 2014. Besides, archeologists repeatedly appealed to various proper agencies, including the RF Culture Ministry, with the request of protecting the Timiryazevo archeological complex, which is part of world heritage. However, the issue still has not been solved.

It will take 10 million RUR altogether to complete excavation at the Timiryazevo archaeological complex in the development area. However, excavation is the last resort measure, archeologists emphasize.
