Sociology Department of the Financial University under the Government of the Russian Federation has fixed a list of the poorest Russian cities.
According to the sociologists, the poorest cities in Russia are Tolyatti, Astrakhan, Penza, Volgograd and Saratov. Tolyatti faces the highest risk of social unrest, they point out.
Vladivostok, Moscow, Yekaterinburg, Kazan, and Tyumen have the highest level of material prosperity of the population.
Research was conducted in 35 cities with the population of over 500 thousand people in 2014. Sociologists reckoned the poverty index up on the basis of how the dwellers of the selected cities evaluate their wealth status.
