Russian football clubs would be slapped with a new fee on foreign players, in addition to the levy on foreign coaches.

Currently, teams must cough up 5 million roubles if they hire a coach abroad, but the Russian Football Union now wants to get an extra 500,000 roubles for every foreign player.

The money is expected to be spent on youth football.

Earlier, Russia-IC reported that Crimea will be a special football zone operating under UEFA’s protectorate after the European regulatory body ruled against Crimean teams joining the Russian Football Union.

The clubs revoked their bid to take part in the Russian tournaments because they realized the Russian officials would not dare to disobey UEFA’s decision.

According to acting head of the Crimean Football Union, Russia will support the peninsula’s league anyway, something that Sports Minister Vitaly Mutko promised him. The territory will also host international events, he added.
