Varangian guest unearthed in Pskov in 2003 was a sensational find.
It made historians partly reconsider the common notions about Pskov of the 10th century.
Now, after more than 10 years, archeologists have found one more grave of a rich Varangian woman, this time in Izborsk.
The buried woman was about 50 years old, which was considered a very old age for that time. Her grave had a very rich stock, which made it possible to date the grave precisely and make an assumption of its ethnic origin.
After detection of a wreath and shawl jewelry it became clear that the woman was of Latgale origin.
Compact groups of Latgalls lived both in Izborsk, and Pskov, as confirmed by archeological excavations in these cities.
