Russian HIV vaccine has passed the second phase of clinical trial, Oleg Salagai, spokesman from the Russian Health Ministry told the press on Thursday.
According to Salagai, three prototypes of the candidate HIV vaccines were developed during the Fourth Conference on HIV/AIDS in Eastern Europe and Central Asia in May 2014. All the three medications have passed the first phase of clinical trials. And one of them has successfully passed the second phase of clinical trials.
The results of the latest clinical trial are currently being analysed. After the analysis is completed, the development projects on HIV effective vaccines will continue.
According to the World Health Organization, 35 million of people were living with HIV and 1.5 million people died of HIV-related illnesses, as of December 2013. HIV infection is usually transferred with blood and other bodily fluids. There is no effective HIV vaccine yet, though many countries are working on that problem.
