First Russian Settlement On the Southern Sakhalin Will Be Restored

Sakhalin authorities are going to restore the first permanent Russian settlement on the Southern Sakhalin founded by the Admiral Gennadiy Nevelskiy during the Amur expedition in 1853 in Lososey Gulf of Aniva Bay within the boundaries of the modern town of Korsakov.

This decision was taken by the Governor Aleksandr Khoroshavin. It is planned to reconstruct the buildings of Muravyevksky Station on Vokzalnaya Street in the port town of Korsakov in the south of Sakhalin. Thanks to the archive data, it was possible to restore the sizes (32 to 35 meters) and the layout of the object being a wooden fort surrounded by a fortified wall with two 8-meter towers at the corners, barracks and houses. The station commanded by the Major N.V. Busse included more than 70 soldiers and a battery of 8 guns. Later, on the basis of the archive data, the architect Sergei Michenko made the design documentation of the fortress.
