During the visit of the Russian President Vladimir Putin to Egypt the Head of Rosatom Sergei Kirienko and the Minister of Electrification of Egypt Muhammad Shakker signed an agreement under which Russia will be able to build a nuclear power plant on the territory of the Arab Republic.

It was written by the “RIA Novosti” news agency on Tuesday, February 10. According to the agreement, Rosatom will receive the opportunity to participate in the tender for the construction of a nuclear power plant in the town of Dabaa located near Alexandria.

According to the plans, the power of the first Egyptian nuclear power plant should make up from 1 thousand to 1.2 thousand megawatts. IAEA experts have confirmed the compliance of the town with the criteria required for the construction of nuclear power plants. “The Agreement on the project development signed today involves, firstly, the construction of two nuclear power units; it is planned to build a total of four blocks. Now we need to prepare two intergovernmental agreements on the construction of a nuclear power plant and on provision of loan to be signed in a very speedy manner. The goal to act as quickly as possible was set during the negotiations, and Rosatom is ready for it” - the Press Service of Rosatom quoted the words of Sergei Kirienko.
